Cochin: Gandhi advocated self-reliance and village crafts. This philosophy continues to be applied, despite the penetration of capitalist forces, domestically and internationally. The Office of the Commission for Khadi and Village Industries sponsored this exhibit in Cochin in December 2004 where both traditional products, such as cotton cloth and clothing, fiber hats, coconut oil, herbs, and hand-made knifes and shoes, and contemporary items, such as electric supplies, were on display and for sale. And freshly prepared food was available!
