Welcome

GEAR UP is a federal program with a mission to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The GEAR UP program has a six-year grant to provide services to the students at the middle and high school levels in the Menominee Tribal School, the Menominee Indian School District, the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal School, and the Winter School District.

GEAR UP has a unique approach. It complements existing federal programs by:

  • starting earlier - college awareness programs begin no later than 7th grade and remain with the students through high school graduation.
  • Transforming schools by supporting statewide educational reform efforts.
  • Leveraging local resources - encouraging schools to engage in meaningful community partnerships.
