Oral Report and Reform Paper
Research Resources

You will have to do research for two different purposes in this class.  First, you will be assigned to a group responsible for analyzing a particular reform idea and reporting your findings to class.  Second, you will each write a 5-7 page paper defending a proposal to help fix a problem with Wisconsin politics, government, or policy.  Your reform paper must refer to at least six published sources.  The Oral Reports and Reform Papers will be evaluated, in part, according to the quality of their research resources. So, it is important that you find articles that are relevant and helpful to you in preparing your reports and papers.

There are several searchable on-line databases available to you through the McIntyre Library.  A good place to start is with the "Core & More: Resources By Discipline" web page for Political Science.  The Social Sciences Full Text (Wilson Web) and Academic Search Elite (EBSCOhost) allow you to do keyword searches for articles in academic journals and magazines with a political or policy bent.  The in-depth coverage of controversial issues by CQ Researcher may be helpful as well.  There are several Newspaper Databases available for you to search for articles.  The best bets are Lexis-Nexis Academic and ProQuest.  To locate articles that are not available as full-text on-line, you will need to search the McIntyre Library Voyager Catalog for the journal or magazine availability or do an Interlibrary Loan request if the journal or magazine is not in the UWEC collection.
