Music
My taste in music is quite particular, but hard to label. While I enjoy classic rock and certain kinds of country/folk, my true musical preference is probably best described as Texas folk. Texas (and Austin in particular, where I went to graduate school) is well known as a haven for singer/songwriters of an eclectic blend of music. Most people are familiar with Austin City Limits and Willie Nelson. But Texas music is so much more. The Austin Chronicle reports on the Texas music scene from an Austin perspective. Music Austin, Texas Music Chart, Texas Music Express, Lone State Music, and Texas Music Online provide more information on Texas artists and their work. You can listen to Texas Rebel Radio or KGSR 107.1 Radio Austin for an even better idea of what I consider Texas folk. My favorite Texas singer/songwriters include: Jerry Jeff Walker, Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Nanci Griffith, Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver, Gary P. Nunn, Rodney Crowell, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Fromholz, Lucinda Williams, and Steve Earle. John Prine and Greg Brown don't come from Texas, but they are great, too!
