-The total population of the city of St. Louis declined between 1990 and 2000 by over 12% from 396,686 to 348,189.  One of the major reasons for this decline in population was the flight out of the city to the surrounding suburbs by many individuals.

-While both Blacks and Whites both lost significant numbers in their respective populations, the White population of St. Louis declined the most of any group.

-Blacks, in fact, are now the majority group in the city based on population.
