Milwaukee is derived from the original name Millioki, given to the area by the Algonquin Indians.  The city’s name means “gathering place by the water,” the significance is two fold.  Milwaukee was a place of meeting and gathering for many tribes for important observances and recognition.  The convergence of three rivers: Milwaukee, Kinnickinnic, and Menomonee rivers all assemble to spill into Lake Michigan.

The city of Milwaukee is most known for her historical and present ties to the brewing industry.  The influence of such a tradition is evident throughout the city, even a major sporting team dawns the name of her favorite laborers.  Miller Brewing Company is the only major macro brewer left in the city.  The city is able to maintain the reputation through its many micro brewers such as: Milwaukee Ale House, Sprecher, and Rock Bottom Brewery.

This southeastern Wisconsin city is also well known for the summer festivals.  These festivals are a celebration of culture in all forms.  Festivals are often culturally or ethnically themed and range from Polish Fest and German Fest, all the way to Asian Moon and Pride Fest.  In total there are over 20 festivals taking place at various times of the summer season. Many festivals share the delights of the culture in all aspects including food, dance, music, and other forms of entertainment.  The highlight for most Milwaukeeans and other around the nation is Summerfest.  This opens the lake shore to local and big time performers in the area of all types of music.
