City of Atlanta:

The city's population is increasing steadily and has done so each year since the 1990 census.  The largest growing areas are in Buckhead, Downtown, and Midtown.  Due to lower birthrates, the city's population is becoming more mature.  The fastest growing age group is that of 35-54 and the population of 14 and under is decreasing while the 65 and older population is steadily increasing.

Per capita income is increasing but is less than the rate of the entire state.  Birth rates, household types and increases of the education level have an influence over the changes in the per capita income.  The size of the city's households declined due to the decline in the size of family-households, possibly caused by the demands of careers and an increase in the divorce rate.  As a result the number of female-headed households has increased since the 1990 survey.
