UW-Eau Claire aspires to take its music program to a higher level of quality by associating itself with Steinway and earning the distinction of an All-Steinway School (see related news release). This will be accomplished by the university’s use of Steinway pianos in faculty studios, classrooms, practice rooms and performance venues. The All-Steinway School campaign was started following a music and theatre arts department survey showing that many of the department's 82 pianos have passed the point of being rebuilt or refurbished and need to be replaced.

The All-Steinway School campaign will consist of two phases. The immediate and most pressing need is to place 10 Steinway grand pianos in the studios of the five piano faculty (two pianos per studio). The funding goal for this phase, which will be completed by Dec. 31, 2008, is $500,000. The long-term vision is to accomplish the following:

• Replace one of the two Steinway concert grand pianos.
• Place six to eight Steinway grand pianos and eight Steinway upright pianos in music classrooms and teaching studios.
• Furnish practice rooms with 28 Steinway-designed Boston pianos and four Steinway grand pianos.

The funding goal for the second phase, which will be completed by Sept. 1, 2010, is $1.5 million.

Funding levels for naming opportunities
All of the following commitments to the All-Steinway School campaign will be recognized with membership in the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Circle of Excellence:

• $100,000 — Sponsor a Steinway concert grand piano. Donors will have their name associated with this instrument in all concert materials and information when the piano is used.
• $50,000 — Sponsor a Steinway piano in a faculty studio. Special donor recognition will be featured outside the faculty studio and in various music programs and publications.
• $25,000 — Sponsor a Steinway classroom or studio grand piano with appropriate recognition outside the room and in various music programs and publications.
• $10,000 — Sponsor a Steinway-designed Boston upright piano in a practice room.
