| "I am aware that I would not be able to aspire to what I am aspiring to without financial help."
Q&A
with Amy Oldakowski:
Background: I am a junior with a major in organizational communication. I received the William Cody Hall Scholarship for 2005-06, the Grace Walsh Scholarship for 2004-05 and 2005-06, and the Donald L. and Geraldine T. Wolfarth Scholarship for 2005-06. I have been on the forensics team since my freshman year.
Why I chose UW-Eau Claire: Like many students, I wanted to go to college somewhere away from home. However, when I toured the UW-Eau Claire campus, I knew I could feel at home here. It was a friendly, open environment that seemed to offer all I was looking for in a school.
My postgraduation goals: I want to continue my education and receive a master's degree in communication. My goal is to be a professor and perhaps coach forensics at a university. The head forensics coach at UW-Eau Claire, Karen Morris, has really been a mentor and role model for me. I find myself inspired to teach others the way she's taught me.
How donors' generosity has made a difference in my life: It is wonderful to be acknowledged for all the hard work I've put into my studies and forensics. The financial support also lets me put more time into what I am studying. Being able to pay off school as I go makes graduate school a much more viable option. The donors' generosity gives me the freedom to really challenge and immerse myself in the learning process.
What I'd like to tell my benefactors: I would like to truly thank my benefactors. Before I knew I had received the scholarships, I participated in the UW-Eau Claire Telefund campaign. Calling donors and thanking them for their contributions as well as being a part of a drive to improve the university was very gratifying. The Telefund gave me a chance to give back to the university. Receiving such generous scholarships myself, I am aware that I would not be able to aspire to what I am aspiring to without financial help.
