| New major gifts officer joins UW-Eau Claire Foundation RELEASED: Sept. 11, 2007
EAU CLAIRE — John Means has been named a major gifts officer for the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. Means, who received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Oklahoma in1978 and a master's degree in education from Colorado State University in 1980, began his new position Sept. 5. "We are very pleased to welcome John to our staff," said Kimera Way, executive director of the Foundation. "He has the valuable combination of fundraising experience and background of many years working in academic settings. He will bring great strengths to our staff." As a major gifts officer, Means will work in close coordination with the director of major gifts, focusing on one-on-one cultivation and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors. Some of his responsibilities will include contacting and visiting prospective donors, assisting in campus visits and other special activities. Means, as director of golf and the head men's golf coach at the University of Minnesota, raised over $3 million to endow the golf program He said he is committed to using his fundraising skills in support of higher education. "I've been involved with university communities since I graduated from college myself," Means said. "I have a passion for what college stands for and view this as an opportunity to give back to the educational system that I've benefited from all these years." Means also worked for Mulligan Master Golf Learning Center, where he was a director of golf. Additionally he was an assistant athletic director of golf team operations/fundraising for the University of Minnesota, men's head golf coach at the U.S. Military Academy and head golf coach for Colorado State University. Means is also the UW-Eau Claire head women's golf coach. He has held that position since 2006 and he will remain head coach in addition to his work with the Foundation.
