The Ice Sports Consortium, consisting of the City of Eau Claire, the Eau Claire Figure Skating Club, Memorial and North High Schools' hockey programs, Eau Claire Youth Hockey and UW-Eau Claire men's and women's hockey, is proposing a $6 million public-private plan for renovation and expansion of the Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire.
What specifically does the plan call for?
The plan includes:
- Enclosing the Michael Hughes outdoor rink.
- Building a new lobby, concession area, restrooms and changing rooms.
- Expanding seating capacity.
- Dedicating an area for Blugold Hockey operations, consisting of new locker rooms for the university program and a weight room and training room that would be available for other user groups.
The consortium has initiated the Future of Ice campaign to raise $2 million for the project.
