New Sales Center provides state-of-the-art technology
The new Sales Center of the UW-Eau Claire College of Business made its debut as the site of the November 2009 Great Northwoods Sales Warm-up, a personal sales competition for college students.
The new sales facilities — the Margaret Rathbun Conference Room and Suites, the Missling-Woodford Rathbun Conference Room and the Rex Systems Classroom — are the result of gifts to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation by Rex Systems Inc., a Chippewa Falls manufacturer of defense and civilian electronic components and networked computer systems.
G. Rex Rathbun, chair and CEO of Rex Systems, wanted to honor the memory of his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Woodford Rathbun, who died in 1999. Peggy Rathbun received a bachelor's degree in comprehensive business education in 1973 and a master's degree in business education in 1980 from UW-Eau Claire. She taught at Altoona High School and Chippewa Valley Technical College before becoming the corporate finance director at Rex Systems in 1993.
The Margaret Rathbun Conference Room and Suites consists of a conference room and four smaller rooms. The smaller rooms are equipped with video cameras and technology that allow practice sales presentations to be viewed remotely in real time by a professor or class.
"The conference room and suites will help further the reputation of our nationally recognized professional sales program with state-of-the-art technology to assist students in simulated roles plays," said Timothy Vaughn, chair of the department of management and marketing.
The Missling-Woodford Rathbun Conference Room was named in memory of both Lorraine Missling, the first female professor in the College of Business and Peggy Rathbun, who was a former student of Missling. The Rex Systems Classroom provides additional space for sales and management classes.
