Letter from the Campus Campaign chairs
Dear Colleagues,
The 2010-11 Campus Campaign "Championing Excellence" celebrates the winning team of students, faculty and staff who make UW-Eau Claire a place where excellence lets everyone win.
Leslie Huntington, coach of the women's fastpitch softball team, and Bernard "Duffy" Duyfhuizen, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and English professor, are serving as this year's Campus Campaign chairs. They are encouraging faculty and staff to participate in the campaign to stay the course of excellence.
State budget cutbacks and the necessity of furlough days make it more important than ever to continue to contribute, said Duyfhuizen.
"On one level there is a need to contribute because the university's needs haven't gone on furlough, and on another level there continues to be a need for contributed dollars that are controlled locally and go to the greatest needs of university — dollars that are not subject to the whims of the general economic condition and state funding," Duyfhuizen said.
It's also important to give because of the principles of the philosophy of giving, said Huntington.
"It's important to teach the value of giving back," Huntington said. "It's important for us to continue to set an example for our students, who are our future leaders and future donors.
"
We celebrate our students and their success, but it's not just about winning games or accumulating academic achievements--it's about developing the whole student, said Duyfhuizen.
"We can be their champions by providing the help, the time, the professionalism and the campus campaign contributions that provide the opportunities for our students to excel," Duyfhuizen said.
A gift of any size will make a difference and generosity from faculty and staff will support the team of students, faculty and staff, Huntington said.
"The Campus Campaign offers faculty and staff the opportunity to contribute to what has meaning to them whether it is a department, a scholarship or a specific fund," Huntington said.
"Whatever the faculty and staff choose to support, their gifts are ways they can share opportunities that will continue to attract the best and brightest students to UW-Eau Claire," Duyfhuizen said. "It's a great way to contribute to the total development of our students."
