Giving has domino effect

An anonymous donor's support made possible a trip to China by a UW-Eau Claire music professor and five of his students. That donor's generosity inspired the parents of one of the students to make a gift to the university's Jazz Advancement Fund. Top photo:

Gifts to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation can have a domino effect, with one donation motivating others. Such was the case of the investment in the UW-Eau Claire jazz program by an anonymous donor. This support made it possible for five student musicians and Robert Baca, UW-Eau Claire director of jazz studies, to travel to and perform at two major universities in China in November.
"The trip to China was a life-changing experience, both culturally and musically," said Baca. "The students and their families were both grateful for the Foundation's support that made the trip possible.”
Buzz and Janet Raymond are the parents of John Raymond, a junior from Golden Valley, Minn., and one of the five students on the trip. They were so impressed by the Foundation's support of the China trip that they recently gave $1,000 to the Jazz Advancement Fund. The Raymonds join more than 2,000 donors in making their first gifts to the Foundation's Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence campaign.
"The Raymonds' response not only demonstrates gratitude for the opportunity afforded their son, but an effort to pay it forward by providing opportunities for other music students," said Carole Halberg, president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. "When people give to what touches their hearts they should remember that kindness generates a ripple effect that often inspires others to give as well."
Making contributions through "Empowering Lives Together," the UW-Eau Claire Foundation's 2006-07 Campus Campaign, offers faculty and staff an opportunity to support the university's people and programs — and perhaps inspire others to do the same.
