Alumna’s pride in alma mater inspires giving

Sue Tietz, a 1972 UW-Eau Claire alumna, her husband, Roger, and McDonough Manufacturing Co. have pledged a gift of $100,000 to Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence to support technology in the UW-Eau Claire College of Business.

Q&A with Sue Tietz:

Sue TietzOccupation: Chief executive officer of McDonough Mfg. Co., Eau Claire, a sawmill equipment manufacturer.

UW-Eau Claire connection: I’m a 1972 social welfare graduate. In addition, I serve as a member of the Investment Committee for the Foundation and I serve as chair of the Business Advisory Council of the College of Business. I am past secretary of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

Why I believe in financially supporting causes that are important to me: I believe that financially supporting causes that are important to me allows me to put my money where I feel it is best used. Educational and youth programs are a high priority for me.

Why I support UW-Eau Claire and its Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence campaign: I support UW-Eau Claire because I feel that anyone striving for a degree in higher education should be entitled to quality resources. We should be proud that our campus is the most beautiful in the state, and we should also be proud of the quality of education we offer on this campus. If students recognize the quality we offer, we should support their desire to attend this university.

What I hope will be the impact of my contributions: I hope that my contributions to UW-Eau Claire will not only aid students currently attending this university, but will also set an example for other potential contributors to make this an attainable goal for future students.

Why I would encourage others thinking about making a gift: I would encourage anyone considering a gift to UW-Eau Claire to contribute to the capital campaign. What a wonderful way to see your contributions work for you — and others.
