Student callers received the
best response ever from UW-Eau Claire alumni and friends
during the university's spring 2003 Telefund drive. The
drive resulted in $297,347 in pledges and matching gifts,
resulting in a Telefund total of $482,665 for the 2002-03
fiscal year. By comparison, 2001-02 Telefund gifts totaled
just over $423,000.
The spring Telefund total included
a matching gift of $10,000 from David G. and Carol
Anderson of Eau Claire. The gift matched first-time
Telefund gifts of $75 or more and a portion of renewal gifts
that were upgraded to $75 or more.
David Anderson, a 1966 UW-Eau Claire graduate,
and Carol Anderson, who attended UW-Eau Claire after earning
her degree from another UW System school, also have a daughter
who graduated from UW-Eau Claire. David Anderson said his
family's firsthand experiences at the university led to
the decision to support the Telefund effort.
"UW-Eau Claire provides its students
with an excellent education, but it's impossible to do that
job with tuition and state funding alone," he said.
Funds raised during Telefund
make a significant difference as the university works to
provide strong scholarship programs, student/faculty research
collaboration opportunities, faculty development initiatives
and study-abroad programs. Telefund contributions are counted
in the totals for UW-Eau Claire's ongoing fund-raising campaign,
Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence.
