Campaign Gifts After devoting their careers to
UW-Eau Claire’s mission of learning and service, many emeriti
faculty and retired staff members have extended their support of that
mission by making planned gifts or outright gifts to the university’s
Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence campaign: Dr. Leonard Gambrell, professor emeritus of political science, received the UW System Board of Regents 2002 Teaching Excellence Award just a few months after his June 2002 retirement. He immediately donated his monetary award to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. The donation established the Leonard Gambrell World Politics Fund, which will recognize political science majors for outstanding research and writing on international relations topics. Dr. Roma Hoff, UW-Eau Claire professor emerita of foreign languages, has given $35,000 to help support a new digital language lab that will enhance foreign language teaching and learning. The Roma Hoff Language Lab will be an integrated, high-technology environment that facilitates the core practices of language learning: hearing, seeing, reading and interacting. The facility will allow foreign languages faculty to greatly expand their curriculum and teaching methods. The ultimate beneficiaries are the students, who will learn and practice new languages in an interactive environment. Dr. David J. Johnson, emeritus professor of social work, has committed through his estate a seven-figure gift to endow a chair in the department of social work. It will be the first endowed chair in the School of Human Sciences and Services and the largest single commitment in the history of the social work department. David retired from UW-Eau Claire in 1988. Full story. Dr. John Morris, UW-Eau Claire professor emeritus of English and former vice chancellor, established the Elizabeth Morris Scholarship Fund with contributions and pledges of $150,000. The fund honors the memory of his wife, Elizabeth. It is awarded annually to an outstanding senior in the comprehensive English teaching program in recognition of her 24 years of service to the UW-Eau Claire English department. In addition, Johns children, Alison and Greg, have contributed annually to the fund. Dr. Morris retired in 1988 after serving UW-Eau Claire for 32 years. Jim Mueller, who retired in 1996 after 19 years as a locksmith at UW-Eau Claire, has included a bequest in his will for a contribution to the university’s athletics program. As he was during his years of employment, Mueller remains an active volunteer at UW-Eau Claire athletic events in almost all sports. In addition to his volunteer activities, Mueller sponsored most valuable player awards for all Blugold teams for many years. Other Emeriti Gifts
