Why a Campaign?

Why is UW-Eau Claire, a public university, seeking private support through a comprehensive fund-raising campaign? In short, because we must broaden our resource base so we can fulfill our aspirations for the future: continuing to enhance our long-standing tradition of excellence and becoming more interactive with the region we serve.

These are fiscally challenging times. The core of the university’s budget currently comes from (1) a state allocation and (2) student tuition. Over time state funding has become an increasingly smaller percentage of the budget. Meanwhile, significant increases in tuition would price the university out of the reach of outstanding and deserving students. UW-Eau Claire is at a juncture where another major funding source, private funds from our alumni and friends, is required.

What will a successful campaign mean for UW-Eau Claire?

• It will ensure that our students continue to receive a distinctive learning and personal development experience in an exceptional living and learning environment.
• It will ensure that UW-Eau Claire can fulfill its commitment to service and its role as a catalyst for economic and cultural development in the Chippewa Valley.
• It will ensure that the university can reach those who previously have been underserved.
