Picking up the pace
Alumni Laureen McGurk Seeger '83 and Dick Johnson '82 have committed to transforming the Blugold Cross Country men's and women's programs with their recent gifts to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. Both competed in Cross Country as students.
Seeger was co-captain of the women's team, captain of the track and field team and was named All American for track her senior year. She says her experiences participating in collegiate athletics have had a profound effect on her life and career.
Seeger's gift established the Women's Cross Country Opportunity Endowment. Johnson's gift, made along with his wife, Mary Fischbach Johnson '82, established the Men's Cross Country Opportunity Endowment.
Both are encouraging their fellow alumni to take up the cause, and an anonymous donor has pledged to match up to $75,000 in new gifts.
"Cross country was an important part of our years at UW-Eau Claire," Johnson said. "We hope the matching grant encourages other cross country alumni to help fund the program for future success."
