Emilia Oswalt received her PhD from the Department of Phonetics and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages at Leningrad State University (St Petersburg State University now). Her dissertation is based on language interaction and interference in bilinguals’ speech. Later, she continued her postdoctoral studies and research on language interaction in the speech of Russian immigrants in the USA, which she did both at St. Petersburg State University, and in Freed-Hardeman University in TN, USA. She has taught ESL (British English), English and Russian Phonetics at Bashkir and St. Petersburg State Universities, and from 2003 to 2005 she taught Russian at the University Language Center in Minneapolis. One of her hobbies is traveling. Working (part time) as a translator/interpreter for the Russian Travel Agency “Sputnik” gave her a fabulous opportunity to travel all over Europe and learn more about other countries and cultures. |
