Dr. Strohschänk studied German and French language and literature at the Universities of München and Tübingen. After emigrating to the United States, he received his Master’s degree in German language and literature from the University of South Carolina and his doctoral degree from the University of California. Since 1988, he has been teaching German language, culture and literature at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Dr. Strohschänk published in the area of German drama before turning his interest to German immigration to Wisconsin. He teaches an honors course on this subject. As a member of the Max Kade Institute Madison, he takes part in an international research effort to explore land use by German immigrants in Wisconsin. He currently prepares a number of writings for publication, in particular a critical history of German immigration to Wisconsin.
