Step One ( For Parents and Students) Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Before the Financial Aid Office can process your request for a Parent PLUS Loan, the student must have been awarded Financial Aid. This requires a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire for the appropriate award year, and have responded to all requests for supplemental data (such as verification documents). If you have not filed a FAFSA, the application is available online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov .
Step Two (For Parents and Students) Print and complete the Parent PLUS Loan application:

Note: Average processing time for the Parent PLUS application is 4 to 6 weeks. Once our office has completed processing your application, a letter or email will be sent to you (the parent) indicating that you can now complete Step Three (below), if applicable.
To view and print the Parent PLUS Loan application forms in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0 . You may download Acrobat Reader for free from the Adobe website .
Step Three (For Parents) If you are a new Parent PLUS Loan borrower, complete the Parent PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) online. ("New Parent PLUS borrower" means that you have not borrowed a Parent PLUS Loan at UW-Eau Claire for the student listed on the application.)
Before you begin:
- Obtain a FSA ID, which serves as your electronic signature on the MPN.
- Log onto the U.S. Department of Education's web site and Sign in under Manage My Direct Loan located on the left side of the page. Select Complete Master Promissory Note and review What You Need Parent Information. If you have all of the information needed, then slelect Parent Plus.
- Print a copy of the PLUS MPN for your records.
Please allow approximately 30 minutes to complete the electronic PLUS MPN process.
Notes: The parent who applied for the loan must be the parent who completes the MPN. The MPN must be completed and must be error-free before the loan disbursement will be finalized by the federal loan processor. Contact the Financial Aid office at 715-836-3373 or at email@example.com if you have any questions or concerns about your PLUS loan disbursements.
- Print a copy of the Parent PLUS MPN for your records.
Beginning March 29th, 2015 parents who are denied the Parent PLUS Loan and are seeking a co-signer or parents who have their credit decision overturned are required to complete PLUS Loan Counseling on studentloans.gov before the PLUS loan can be disbursed.
