Scholarship Solicitations

Students may be receiving information about receiving scholarships if they submit a fee. We offer free scholarship searches on the Private Scholarship web site. This is a good time to start to think about looking for scholarships for next fall.

Graduating Students

You may wish to consolidate your loans during your grace period while your variable interest rate loans (Ford loans taken out prior to July 1, 2006) will be at rate of 3.61%. Students who graduated in May and want to consolidate would look at consolidating at the end of September to maintain their grace period and receive the lower 2008 - 09 rate. Students who will graduate in August would look at consolidating at he the end of December to maintain their grace period and receive the lower 2008 - 09 rate.

If you consolidate when you are out of your grace period your rate on loans prior to July 1, 2006 will be based on 4.21.

Additional information can be found at http://loanconsolidation.ed.gov.

We also have a consolidation tip sheet (pdf format) (MS word)) available to help you with this process.

Official Looking Student Loan Offers

Students will often receive mailings marked "confidential" and "open immediately" and assume that this is coming from the Department of Education in regard to their student loan. Please be aware that other financial institutions are soliciting your business. If you have questions or concerns about what you are receiving, please check with the Financial Aid Office.
