The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire recognizes that you are a very important partner in your student's success. Family Connection is a service that helps you stay connected to campus and serves as your ongoing resource throughout your student's college career.

Parent Philosophy

The University provides services designed to support student learning and retention by meeting the information and involvement needs of students’ parents and families.

Parents and families can contribute to student success in a number of ways.  UW-Eau Claire encourages you to:

Understand the student experience and learn about resources available at UW-Eau Claire by:

  • Becoming aware of the developmental process students need to go through in order to become independent adults
  • Becoming knowledgeable about the unique challenges and opportunities facing today’s college students
  • Learning about student support services and encouraging your student to seek support and assistance independently

Support the University’s goals for student learning by:

  • Encouraging your student to set and achieve personal goals and make responsible decisions related to academics, career planning, social interactions, and community engagement
  • Understanding and supporting the University’s commitment to ethical behavior, diversity, civility, and individual and social responsibility
  • Challenging your student to seek new experiences for personal and professional growth.

Know when to step in to help your student and when to empower your student to take responsibility for themselves by:

  • Knowing and understanding limitations to access student records, as defined by FERPA and University policy
  • Promoting self-advocacy by encouraging student to identify problems and work toward solutions independently
  • Allowing your student to accept consequences of his/her actions and accept responsibility for personal choices
  • Being alert to signs that your student is under significant stress, is taking unhealthy risks, or is ill; discuss concerns openly with your student and assist him or her in developing a plan to address the problem
  • Notifying the university if you feel it is necessary
