Campus-wide Spring Steam Outage:
Date:  March 27 - March 28 2002
Contact:  Jim Franklin 836-4412
Details:
I wanted to thank all of you for your many concerns and responses to the outage in March, and I am making every attempt to adjust this outage to make it as painless as possible, but I want to remind everyone that this has to be scheduled for repair as to not disrupt the primary purpose of this campus on spring break.  We are changing the outage to March 27, 2002 at 7:00 AM through March 28, 2002 at 6:00 PM.

This shutdown would then result in the following:

  1. No Steam heat in Davies, Schofield, Schneider, Brewer, Phillips, and Nursing.
  2. No Domestic hot water in the above buildings except Arena, Brewer, and Nursing.

We are going to isolate the main steam line valve in Pit #11 in front of Schofield Hall that was tested last Friday.  This valve will isolate all the buildings that I have already mentioned, but will leave steam on to all of upper campus, CVTC, SOB, SHH, Putnam, Thomas, Library, Hibbard, and everything across the footbridge to Water Street.

We will be breaking ground the morning of March 27th. I have hope that we will locate the damaged line, make all the necessary repairs and if everything goes smooth be back up to pressure in a single day March 27th outage only, but if we run into any problems then we will need be down March 28th as well. I will be making every effort to accomplish this as to not inconvenience any more people than necessary, but I do recommend that you keep both dates in mind for any future scheduling.
