Text Box: CI 495/695: Directed Studies in Education: Bilingual/Bicultural Education Content-Based Instruction & Curriculum Development.
Target Audience: For advanced-level proficiency, bilingual educators who 1) hold licensure in Elementary Education, 2) secondary Math, Science, English, or Social Studies, 3) K-12 Foreign Language (French, Spanish, German, etc), or 4) who hold a TESOL license. 
This course will be part of a new Bilingual/Bicultural License that UWEC hopes to offer by spring 2009. In order to obtain this license, individuals must be able to score a minimum of low-advanced on an ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview. 
Course Description: In this course you will study what it means- linguistically, cognitively, socially, and psychological-to be a bilingual child. You will explore the language learning/acquisition of bilinguals; how to instruct bilingual children through grade-level subject matter; and various program models. You will develop curricula to teach bilingually in content areas. Finally, you will be introduced to methods of assessment for second language learners in U.S. public schools.

Graduate (resident) fee for 3 credits: $1096.07
