Meet The Team
Since my first "leg up" on my pony named Sarge at the age of 5 I have been completely in love with the sport of horseback riding. Growing up I took lessons and showed games in the local circuit around my very small hometown of Adams-Friendship, Wisconsin. My experience ranges from local 4-H shows, Junior High rodeo barrel racing runs, and dressage competitions to collegiate IHSA shows. This is my second year as the western team captain and fourth year on the team which unfortunately means that this is my last eligible year to ride and compete. I'm so happy with the progress, knowledge and best friends I have gained by joining the UWEC Equestrian Team. I plan on graduating next year with my degree in criminal justice and continuing to train and show horses.
Hey! My name is Katie Lederer and I'm a senior at UWEC. I grew up in the tiny town of Hancock, WI on a small farm. I've been riding and showing horses since I was 9 years old! I grew up riding a fat little white pony named Traveller (he's the cute pony in the picture with me!) and he taught me a ton about riding! Since then I have had a few horses and mainly been showing Dressage and Hunt Seat. I've also been showing through 4-H and I love all the opportunities that comes with 4-H! When I found out that UWEC had an equestrian show team I was ecstatic and have had so much fun so far! Being on a team with a bunch of girls who are just as horse crazy as me makes college so much better! I love showing through the IHSA and it has been really challenging but totally worth it for the experience!
Hi, my name is Heidi Klein and I am a senior studying Information Systems with an emphasis in Business Analysis and Design. I have been riding since I was 8 years old but just started showing this past year. I am absolutely in love with this sport and can say I have truly found my passion. I am currently leasing the big guy in the picture with me but will be buying him once I get out of school. I show both western and english during the summer but compete in western during The school year. I am so grateful and excited for another year of showing with the team and cannot wait to see where we go.
Hello, my name is Sam Bartnik and I am a sophomore here majoring in Geology. I have loved horses my whole life but started riding seriously when I was 8 years old. I have always ridden Morgans and have two horses of my own. I am in the process of training my younger horse so that has kept me busy lately. I have showed in a variety of shows since I started riding. I was in 4-H since fifth grade and went to state a few times. I had a lot of fun with showing and being part of our county fair as well as the many friends I met. I also have done some A-rated Morgan shows with my mare and loved that as well. The past 3 years I have also participated in the breed demonstrations for the Morgan breed at Midwest Horse Fair. I love being part of the team, I was so excited to hear UWEC had an equestrian team, considering not many people know about it. Traveling to shows with the girls and having practices and team bonding activities are some of what make it so fun. I love the opportunity to meet new people who share my interest in riding and to be able to ride and compete while I'm here at school.
Hello I am Terra Mitzel and I am from Amery, WI. I am currently a sophmore at UWEC and majoring in Communications with a minor in English. I have been riding and showing horses since I was 11 years old. I have a Quarter horse, Squirt that I show western and hunt seat with and I have a thoroughbred, Delta that I barrel race with. My favorite event is definitely barrel racing because I love the adrenaline I get right before I am about to run. I am also St. Croix Valley’s PRCA Rodeo Princess and I have had a blast learning about the rodeo circuit and meeting so many new people this past summer. When I am not showing, I love to take my horses swimming and go on long adventurous trail rides with friends. I found out there was an Equestrian Team here at Eau Claire right before I moved to college and I was so excited because the hardest thing about leaving was not being able to see horses, and now I get to! I hope from this experience that I can gain true friends that share the same passion as I do, and also learn to become a better ride overall.
Hi, my name is Libby Faffler and the handsome boy in the picture with me is my horse, Nicki! I am a junior here at Eau Claire from Forest Lake, MN, and a Health Care Administration major. This is my first year being on the Equestrian Team, but I have been riding horses my whole life. I ride dressage, jumping, and cross country, and I have been competing for the past 10 years. I have been lucky enough to have had Nicki for the past 6 years. Hunt Seat is new to me, but I am excited to learn; there is always something to learn with horses. Besides competing, I love to take my horse swimming, trail riding, and horse-camping. I am very excited to kick-off this school year with the team!
