Jan Stirm joined the English Department at UWEC in Fall 1999. On the way here, she earned her BS (yes, BS) at the University of California, Davis (in Zoology), served as a Peace Corps forestry technician in Ecuador, worked in mutual funds, and finally, after coming to her senses, got her MA and PhD in English at UCLA. She teaches Composition, introductory literature courses, Shakespeare and other early modern literature. Her research focuses on representations of women in early modern drama and on early modern women writers. In addition to teaching and research, she also enjoys throwing pots (not very good ones, either), playing computer games, and the occasional river raft trip.
