Science & Technical Writing Emphasis

We study Scientific and Technical Writing because these kinds of texts exert a powerful and compelling influence in contemporary culture.
We need to learn more about ourselves and about humans in general as both producers and consumers of scientific and technical rhetoric. Students who elect a major in English with an emphasis in Scientific and Technical Writing will read and write informative, transactional, persuasive texts, learning what works when, with whom, and why. If they meet the challenges that this rhetorical study affords, our students will become active agents in civic, social, and corporate discourse, helping to tell some of the most important stories of our time.
