Students who primarily want to teach English can do so either by taking either a comprehensive major or a major in English and a minor in some other field. With the major described below, students will focus on all the language arts - reading, writing, speaking, and listening - with the plan of supplementing this focus with concentrated study in a second area appropriate for teaching.
This major is restricted to students in the College of Education and Human Sciences: Curriculum and Instruction: Option B and leads to licensure to teach English in Early Adolescence through Adolescence classrooms. See adviser for specific information regarding English Department requirments for admission to the College of Education and Human Sciences and the Professional Semester.
The current requirements for this particular emphasis are available by consulting the most recent catalogue (you may need to scroll down to find the relevant section). When viewing degree requirements, be sure to consult the specific version of the catalogue applicable to you. You should also be sure to consult with your adviser regarding your particular degree requirements.
