Technical Writing Internships

Internship Overview

The English Department has a variety of technical writing internships set up here at the university and also with various businesses and organizations in Eau Claire.

An internship is a chance to work in an environment that may be related to your future career and is meant to be a bridge between coursework and the work world; it will involve technical (practical) writing and/or editing for at least 3 hours a week. The majority of your time will be spent at the internship site.

A technical writing internship will include one or more of the following activities:

  • writing
  • editing
  • layout and design

Why Should I Want an Internship? Because it can give you (in addition to 3 credits of English):

  • opportunities to apply your classroom knowledge to a real work setting
  • valuable writing and editing experience
  • contacts for job searches
  • real-world writing samples for a portfolio to take to job interviews
  • letters of recommendation
  • knowledge of whether technical writing is a career you would enjoy

This internship information page is meant to guide you through the internship policies and examples of available internships.
