Larry Martin's Research Projects

Larry Martin will be on sabbatical for the 2006-2007 academic year, working on the Ojibwe language works of Frederic Baraga, a nineteenth-century missionary to the Chippewa/Ojibwe people of Wisconsin and upper Michigan.  Baraga produced a dictionary and grammar of the Ojibwe language, as well as numerous religious works written in a writing system for Ojibwe which he designed.  His work produced a significant movement of Ojibwe literacy in the nineteenth century.
