Background

• Grew up in Darlington, Wisconsin.
• Received Bachelors Degree in Physics from Beloit College in 1989.
• Received M.S. in Physics from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1992.
• Received Ph.D. in Physics from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1995.
• Research Scientist for Northern Illinois University from 1995-1997, conducting research experiments at the Synchrotron Radiation Center in Stoughton,WI and at the Advanced Light Source, in Berkely, CA.
• Assistant Professor at Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA, 1997-1999.
• Joined the UWEC Physics and Astronomy Department in 1999.
• Director, Materials Science Center 2004-present

Research

• Spectroscopic studies of Silicon Carbide- characterizing the surface of single crystal SiC by means of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, LEED, Photoemission extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure and various other surface techniques.
• Much of the research is done in the newly built Materials Science Research Lab located in Phillips 174.   The lab consists of an STM and an XPS system constructed with support from the National Science Foundation

• Photoelectron Emission Microscopy (PEEM)  With the help of student collaborations a PEEM for analysis of surfaces at UWEC using Ultraviolet light has been built.
        

• Environmental Spectroscopy- using X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy to characterize environmental samples.
