TThe University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is excited to present the Blugold Beginnings!
The purpose of the Blugold Beginnings program is to educate and inspire students, especially underrepresented, low income or first generation students, to believe that a post-secondary education is important, attainable, and available at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and other institutions.

The Blugold Beginnings Learning Community is now accepting applications for Fall 2012 semester.

Please complete the online survey by following this link to submit your online application to be a member of the 2012-2013 academic year learning community. Priority application deadline is March 1st, 2012, with applications being accepted until the program openings have been filled. Please feel free to contact Shelly Voegeli, BBLC Program Coordinator, with any questions concerning the opportunity to be a member of the Blugold Beginnings Multicultural Learning Community at 715-836-4304 or via email at voegelsm@uwec.edu.

Mentors Needed

Two opportunities for college students to volunteer and earn Service Learning credit are available through participation in Blugold Beginnings. (1) Mentors are needed in area elementary schools during and after school. Visit our Elementary School page for schedule details. (2) Over 250 college student volunteers are needed April 26th and over 300 volunteers for April 27th to give tours to visiting 5th grade students for the Blugold Beginnings 5th Grade Campus Tour Days.

Blugold Beginnings Pepsi Refresh Project

UW-Eau Claire's Blugold Beginnings program entered the Pepsi Refresh Project competition an to win a $50,000 cash prize. The 10 projects that receive the greatest number of votes through Nov. 30 will receive $50,000 to fund their proposals. The Blugold Beginnings proposal was created to fund next spring's 5th Grade Campus Tour Day event April 26-27, 2012, which will host 1,600 fifth-graders on campus to learn about college. Blugold Beginnings ranked 60th out of over 400 proposals and did not receive any funding.

AmeriCorps funding helps Blugold Beginnings expand

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has received a $266,000 AmeriCorps grant to expand Blugold Beginnings, a program designed to give more area youth access to higher education through precollege outreach.
