State policies have more impact than people realize; importance of state elections – currently full Democratic leadership in WI (except AG)
It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but a small group of people can make change. Just start by showing up
Not a sexy election but it is extremely important, especially governor’s race (Barrett vs. Walker)
12 days, we need people to make phone calls, calling Dems who only vote in Presidential elections and trying to encourage them to vote now – if they vote, we’ll win
Canvassing is even better than phone calls, it’s more personal – Gore in 2000 won WI by 1 vote per ward, making phone calls and going door-to-door matters
3rd Congressional District 5:25
Kind, Kresian and Kapanke
Estimated 500 people there

Clip 5:02
Appoint Paydon to GOTV captain 5:04
Explain, Paydon: Get Out The Vote – motivate people to vote, 3 our 4 students that vote, vote Dem and we want them to. Two main problems
Voter caging- trying to suppress student and minority vote by GOP
Voter apathy – mindset of students – need to focus on getting people aware and out there. Frustrated with Dems at the moment but don’t want to vote Rep so they don’t vote at all. New focus, “Why should I care?” put a face to the issues and not just a party.
GOTV meeting Oct 3rd
Start thinking about why you care so we can get fired up this election season
Every Tuesday and Thursday Lit Dropping at 7AM in SSS Lobby
Questions ask Paydon
Any other Exec want to say anything? 5:12
Dylan and Kayla – choose your issue, personalize it
If you are from MN you can register to vote here but you can’t vote in both places!
Assemblymen Jeff Smith 5:17
New bill – people would be registered to vote online, anytime they have any other interaction with another state agency they would have to verify address they would be voting from. Also addresses shady things republicans do around voting time to discourage people from voting.
Out of 4 million people who can vote here, only 3 million are registered
Talk to Paydon if you want to volunteer with Jeff or any other Democrat
Poll today for Feingold – with expected voters, Johnson leads Feingold with all registered voters, Feingold leads Johnson
Only 41 days left! Goal is to get half of the student body to vote.

Worried about Democratic complacency because we’ve won a lot in recent elections and disillusionment, be patient, it can’t all happen at once but we’re working hard to make things happen
