Hello! I'm Jacob Fishbeck, and I am currently a junior Political Science student here are UWEC. Stirring peoples' interest in politics is one of my greatest passions, and the Conservative Union is a wonderful venue to do that, as well as promote conservative principles. I grew up in New Brighton, MN, and went to school in the Mounds View public school district. My parents taught me the importance of skepticism and critical thinking from a very young age, and I first became interested in politics from listening to my father and tuning in to conservative talk radio. In college, I have been an active member of the College Republicans, and I am also a Student Senator. I am usually contemplative and reserved, but I enjoy conversation on many contemporary topics, from politics, to religion, to technology. I think conservative principles--the principles of our founding--are proven to bring strength and prosperity, and I am dedicated to the preservation of those principles. That aside, I'm devoted to making the Conservative Union a fun place to hang out for right leaning students.

 

 

 

 

 

History of The Conservative Union:

The Conservative Union was founded in November 2006 following a trip by several conservative students to the Young America's Foundation West Coast Leadership Conference. On the plane ride to this conference, these young conservatives realized that in the wake of the 2006 elections, the need for an independent conservative group on campus was more apparent than ever. Upon returning to campus the Constitution of The Conservative Union was written and the necessary steps were taken to get the group provisional status as a student organization. Later that same year The Conservative Union received official recognition from the UWEC Student Senate as an offical student organization at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Tom Burton was subsequently elected as the group's first President, with fellow founder Joseph Herro elected as Vice-President and Kristy Letourneau as Treasurer.
