The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) assisted former Assistant to the Chancellor for Affirmative Action Barbara Stevens in drafting UW-Eau Claire's response to the UW-System Survey on the Status of Women during the autumn of 2000.
During the past several years the Commission on the Status of Women and its working groups undertook initiatives in these areas.
The Commission on the Status of Women supports the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Center for Awareness of Sexual Assault (CASA). CASA’s mission is to promote and coordinate awareness of sexual assault issues for UW – Eau Claire and the greater Eau Claire community by providing education, training, research and services. CASA is a collaborative effort between the Academic Departments of Psychology and Women’s Studies, the Office of Student Development and Diversity, UW-Eau Claire Counseling Services, Health Services, Housing & Residence Life, and the Student Senate. CASA will seek to collaborate and affiliate with other entities as needed to effectively carry out its mission.

The children’s center has a lactation room with a refrigerator/freezer available from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm at the Campus School 1A. The WAGE center also has a private breast feeding area available.
The mission of the UWEC Women’s And Gender Equity Center is to advocate for the welfare of those who have historically been marginalized because of their sexual and/or gender identity. We will create a supportive environment that fosters feelings of good will, tolerance, and respect for people of all religions, races, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender. The WAGE Center will provide programs and services in collaboration with departments, organizations, and offices already established on campus that address issues and challenges facing students, faculty, and staff.

The Women and Science Program is primarily a UW-System faculty development program with the mission of attracting and retaining more women and minority students in science, mathematics, and engineering. The program promotes systemic change in the ways that science and science education are regarded and carried out within the University of Wisconsin System. Specific activities of the program include the Fall Workshop for New Science, Math and Engineering Faculty as well as a week long Curricular Reform Institute held in early June. The Program also sponsors a Spring Retreat, held in May as an opportunity for participants of previous workshops and institutes to reconnect and share best practices. The Program hosts a distance education event during each of the fall and spring semesters. On October 30, from 2:15-3:30 in OL 1132, Bernice Durand and Louise Root Robbins will discuss "Promising Strategies for Supporting Women's Success in Science". The Commission continues to discuss with the office of the Provost strategies for increasing the number of women in leadership positions at UW-Eau Claire. It supports the work of Wisconsin Women in Higher Education Leadership (WWHEL).
Women on Wednesdays is a series of discussion on Wednesdays that discuss issues that impact men and women at UWEC. Everyone is invited to attend these events.
