Beginning Monday, January 4, all drops and withdrawals must be processed through Registration Services; MyBlugold can no longer be accessed for Winterim registration changes. Call 715-836-2425 or send an e-mail to: registration@uwec.edu
Dropping credits: If you are dropping credits, but staying enrolled in at least one course during the Winterim session, check Course Searching on MyBlugold to find the deadlines to drop-no record and withdraw with a W grade. ACADEMIC POLICIES
Credit Load:
The maximum credit load
(including audits) for Winterim is one credit per week of attendance
(e.g., three credits in three weeks; two credits in two weeks). To
exceed this limit, students must have permission from the dean of their
college.
NOTE: Overload approval may be granted only in special circumstances.
Academic Standing:
Grades earned during the
Winterim Session will be calculated into students’ resident and total
GPAs; however, for purposes of academic standing and
progress, Winterim will be treated as a separate term that will not
result in a change to a student’s academic standing at the end of the session. Students with less than good
academic standing at the end of either the Fall or Spring semesters may
not use grades earned during the Winterim Session to improve their
academic standing. Conversely, grades earned during Winterim will not be
used to change a student’s good academic standing to Academic Warning,
Probation, or Suspension.
Fall Suspensions:
Students on academic
suspension at the end of the Fall Semester WILL be allowed to enroll in
the Winterim Session; however, they are not eligible for financial aid.
Academic
Distinction/Deans Honor Lists:
Grades and credits
earned during the Winterim Session will NOT apply in determining
academic distinction or dean’s honor lists for the Fall or Spring
semesters.

"NO SHOW" POLICY
• Students who do not attend courses, but do not officially cancel or withdraw from their enrollment, are held responsible for full fee payment and will receive grades.
• Students who do not attend the first class meeting of any course without previously notifying the instructor or the department office may be dropped from the course to allow other students to fill the vacancies.

Tuition-Free Auditors
Residents of Wisconsin
who are 60 years of age and older or who meet certain disability
requirements may audit courses on a space-available basis at no charge
for tuition. Special course fees, however, may be charged and all
auditors are assessed campus fees unless they decline issuance of a
University ID card. Registration begins on January 4, 2010 in
Registration Services, Schofield Hall 128. Proof of eligibility must be
presented at the time of registration. Contact Registration Services,
(715) 836-3629, for more information.
TOP
EXCESS
CREDITS SURCHARGE
In accordance with
Board of Regents policy, all resident
undergraduate students who have accumulated 165 credits (or 30 credits
more than required by their degree programs, whichever is greater) will
be charged a surcharge, equal to 100 percent of the regular resident
tuition on credits beyond that level (total tuition will equal
twice regular resident tuition). For information about credits
required in a specific degree program or information concerning
appealing the surcharge, contact the Registrar.
TOP
FINANCIAL AID
Students may be eligible
for loans or work study for the Winterim Session. If the student is eligible
for a Pell Grant and is not attending full-time Fall and Spring
semester, the student may be able to receive a Pell Grant award for Winterim.
Students can apply for Winterim financial aid using the application on MyBlugold. Special students, either undergraduate or graduate
level, are NOT eligible for financial
aid. Contact the Financial Aid office, Schofield Hall 115, (715) 836-3373,
for more information.

Instructional
Resource Rental
UW-Eau Claire undergraduate students may obtain many of their textbooks from the University
Bookstore's
Instructional Resource Rental (IRR) department, located in Davies Center, by presenting a valid Blugold Card. Because a
designated portion of undergraduate tuition funds the IRR department,
students enrolled in "graduate only" courses (numbered 500 and over)
must purchase all resources for their classes. Only one copy of
each textbook may be taken.
Textbooks will be
available for pickup starting November 30, 2009.
Students may buy any of
the resources in the Instructional Resource Rental department -- even
those used in courses they may not be taking at the time.
Students must return all
of their rental materials by the last day of final exams or they will be
fined. All Winterim rental materials must be returned by January
22, 2010.
CDs, manuals, study
guides, and other media that come as a set with textbooks must be
returned with the textbooks. Students will be required to pay the
replacement price for the complete textbook set if all materials in the
set are not returned, or if the identifying barcodes are removed.
Hours of operation for the University Bookstore and the Instructional Resource Rental Department
are available online or by calling (715) 836-2171.
