| Article I. Name Section 1. The name of this organization shall be officially designated as The Conservationists. Article II. Purpose Section 1. The purpose of this organization is to: A. Increase awareness of conservation issues to the UW -EC students. B. Provide a working definition of conservation: "means for maintaining the earth's biodiversity. " C. Aid in the restoration of ecosystems which represent diversity of life on Earth. D. Be concerned with local and global conservation issues that threaten biological diversity. E. Be a social and service organization. F. Provide education on conservation issues to the community. G. Assist the community with habitat protection, restoration, and management. H. Facilitate conservation efforts of other environmental organizations on campus and in the community. Article III. Primary Control Section 1. Primary control of this organization shall rest with the student members of the organization. Article IV. Election Procedures Section 1. Annual elections shall be held and shall conform to the following rules: A. Elections shall be through secret ballot. B. The term of office is one year; successive terms are acceptable. Efforts will be made to involve underclassmen in executive positions. C. Elections shall take place at the first meeting of May. D. Nominations may be made one meeting prior to elections or at the meeting of elections. E. Any voting member has the right to be nominated. F. The candidate for each office receiving a majority of the votes shall be elected. In the event that no candidate receives a majority of votes, a subsequent voting of the highest number of votes which are tied will proceed. G. If need arises, special elections will be held to fill vacant positions. Article V. Observance of University Rules Section 1. All members of The Conservationists shall be held responsible for the observance of the rules and regulations established by the university. Article VI. Nondiscrimination Clause Section 1. Consistent with all applicable federal and state laws and university policies. This organization and its subordinate bodies, officers and members shall not discriminate for or against any person for reason of age, gender, marital or parental status, race, creed, or religion, color, sexual orientation, national origin or ancestry, or physical handicap. Article VII. Membership Section 1. Active membership in The Conservationists shall be available to all interested students, faculty, and staff of UWEC. Section 2. Active membership shall be contingent on the payment of dues. Section 3. Active membership shall include participation in at least two activities or events per semester. Article VIII. Advisor(s) Section 1. The primary advisor(s) of The Conservationists shall be faculty/staff member(s) of UWEC. Section 2. The advisor(s) is allowed to confer with, and advise the organization. Section 3. The advisor(s) may attend meetings and/or organizational activities. Article IX Bylaws Section 1. Bylaws may be proposed by any active member. Section 2. Any proposed bylaw shall be approved by a majority vote. Article X. Dues Section 1. The determination of dues shall be made by voting members. Section 2. Dues shall be voted on yearly. Article XI. Meetings Section 1. The organization shall meet bi-monthly. Section 2. Officers may recommend that a special meeting be called if need arises. Article XII. Committees Section 1. All Committees shall be designed by the president, and approved by the executive board. Section 2. Membership to these committees are open to all active members. Section 3. Chairpersons of the committees shall be selected by the members of the committees. Section 4. Established Committees: A. Fundraising -Shall establish a fundraising plan and goal for fundraiser -Shall be creative in developing ideas and strategies -Shall follow University procedures and requirements B. Projects: -Shall seek out project ideas which members of the Conservationists are interested in and propose those activities to members. -Shall coordinate activities and make location and day/time confirmations. -Shall be open to ideas and information from outside sources. C. Advertising: -Shall promote the Conservationists meetings, activities and events on the UWEC campus and community through a chosen medium. -Shall increase public awareness of programs or services. -Shall work in conjunction with other committees. Article XIII. Officers Section 1. All officers must be active members at their election and throughout their entire term. Section 2. The offices of this organization shall be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Section 3. The duties of these offices shall be: A. President: -Shall preside over meetings. -Shall be chief executive officer. -Shall be official representative spokesperson. -Shall appoint members to temporary positions if vacancies occur. -Shall act as authority to interpret constitution. -Shall vote in the event of a tie. -Shall form committees. -Shall have veto power in the absence of a vote. B. Vice-President: -Shall preside over meeting in absence of president. -Shall assist the president in his/her duties and responsibilities when deemed necessary. -Shall keep written documents of past activities and contacts. C. Secretary: -Shall keep written records of all meetings, and be responsible for any written correspondence of The Conservationists. D. Treasurer: -Shall perform and keep a record of all transactions pertaining to the club's account. -Shall advise any committee concerning their finances. Article XIV. Parliamentary Authority Section 1. The recognized parliamentary authority will adhere to the latest edition of Robert's Rule of Order. |
