How to prepare

Have you turned in those deposits yet? Are you applying for scholarships? Have you set up a time to take your placement tests? We have a guide to help you through this process step by step. Look through our checklist to make sure you’re ready for orientation day.

Review the checklist

Freshman Orientation was an exciting experience. I did a lot of preparation the night before considering what classes I’d be interested in and the different questions I had about Studying Abroad. My Orientation Assistant was amazing and answered all of my questions.

Prepare for the day

It's never fun when you forget something important for a big day — so we aren't going to let that happen to you. There are specific materials for orientation day that you won't want to forget.

Make travel arrangements
  • You'll be here from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Want to come early? Attend a social the night before in our Davies Student Center or check out the beautiful city of Eau Claire.
Overnight accommodations
  • You can stay in Bridgman Hall for $13 per person a night ($16 for a single room). Everything will be provided for you— however, Bridgman Hall is not air conditioned. Otherwise, you can stay in one of the many hotels we have in Eau Claire.
Materials to bring
  • Password used to access registration system
  • Parking permit you were mailed after registering for orientation
  • Government-issued I.D. to obtain Blugold I.D. card
  • Campus map
  • Umbrella, comfortable shoes and something with sleeves (our buildings vary in temperature)

Please note: The Orientation fee for 2017 is $175 per student.  This fee is added to your fall billing statement and includes: summer Orientation programs, orientation materials for you and your guests, meals for you and your guests, Opening Day programs in September, and year round operational costs of the Orientation office.

Get all your ducks in a row

If you can't contain your excitement for orientation any longer, there is one more thing you can do before arriving. It can be helpful to look at classes ahead of time to know what you're interested in and looking for. Check out our course catalog for the classes we offer. Keep in mind, not all of the classes in the catalog are offered every semester, so pick out a few options as back–ups just in case.
