FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is the audition process like?
A: There will be one 4-hour audition held on a Saturday morning at the beginning of fall semester each year. The audition will consist of a warm-up, ballet, jazz, and tap, and will be run by the CDC officers. A company list will be sent out by the end of the night.
Once you have made the company, there will be one week of auditions for the individual pieces. Each piece will have a one-hour audition held during the time it will rehearse for the rest of the year. The cast list will be sent out the night of the audition.
Our advice: smile and have fun! We are looking for people who will work hard and have a good attitutde. “Fake it ‘till you make it!”
Q: How much of a time commitment is being in the company?
A: As much or as little as you want! Each piece rehearses for 1-hour per week, so if you want to dance a lot you should audition for all of the pieces! If you only have a couple hours per week that you have time to dance, then only audition for a couple of pieces!
*auditioning for a piece doesn’t automatically mean you will make it. The more pieces you audition for, the more likely it is that you will make them! We recommend that all members audition for all pieces, if nothing else for the experience!
Q: What if I don’t know one of the dance styles, but I want to audition for the piece?
A: Don’t worry about it! We want people who are going to be enthusiastic and work hard, so just because you don’t know a particular style doesn’t mean you won’t make the piece!
Q: What if I have never danced before?
A: We are looking for anyone with an interest in dance who is enthusiastic and has a great attitude! “Fake it ‘till you make it!”
Q: How much does it cost to be in the company?
A: The cost to be in the company is $35/year. This includes being in the company and costume fees for the performances. There will be other optional expenses, such as field trips and comapny clothing, but they are not required.
Q: What are the rehearsal times like?
A: Rehearsal times will vary depending on which piece you are in. Each piece gets a 1-hour time slot during the scheduled CDC dance times: 3-6pm Monday-Friday, 8-11pm Sunday.
Q: What can I expect after I have made the company?
A: You can expect to make great friends and have a TON of fun!!! :)
