The spring 2007 semester is off to a busy start. This issue of Transitions includes recent news and important updates about student, faculty, and staff funding opportunities.

New Foundation Funds Support College Diversity Initiatives

The University Foundation received a $30,000 donation from Irene Reed, a teacher education alum who enjoyed a lifelong career as a teacher. This donation will create an endowed fund to assist with diversity initiatives for education majors. The Williams/Rhoades Fund has been redirected to assist with diversity initiatives for faculty and students in all departments in the College. Interest from these two funds will provide over $2,000 annually to be used for diversity initiatives, in addition to the current College of Education and Human Sciences Diversity Fund that was created earlier this year. The COEHS Diversity Fund has supported nine students since it was created in fall 2006.

Illusion Theater Performs March 8 in Gantner Hall, Haas Fine Arts-Bring students!

Illusion Theater, which presented to faculty and staff at the January retreat, is coming again to UW-Eau Claire for a presentation targeted to students.  The group gives voice to artists who reflect a variety of cultural perspectives.  The production will be from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007 in Gantner Hall, Haas Fine Arts. Faculty are invited to bring their students to this powerful event.  More information is available from Jill Pinkney Pastrana, foundations of education or at http://www.illusiontheater.org/about/

Celebration of Teaching and Scholarship

In response to one of our strategic plan implementation priorities, the College will hold its first Celebration of Teaching and Scholarship, an informal event that will include lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, on the 2nd floor of Mc Intyre Library in the breezeway adjacent to 2023 A/B. A call for presentations with a brief return form was recently circulated—
