Welcome!

Dear Faculty and Staff,

The purpose of this e-newsletter is to keep you informed about the transitions and continuing developments within the College.

Department Meetings

We have enjoyed meeting with COEHS departments during this frenzied final week of the 2004/05 academic year. Thank you for participating in these meetings and sharing your thoughts and ideas with us. Please continue to provide input by emailing us or stopping by the office to talk.

Opportunity for Students to Serve in the Peruvian Amazon

Jorge Won, a New York optometrist and UW-Eau Claire alum, is sponsoring two student stipends of $500 each to join him and a group of other volunteers who will travel to an Amazon jungle town in north-eastern Peru August 15-17 2005 to provide free eye care to people who do not have access to this type of care. You may learn more about the organization on the website www.voshny.org. Dr. Won received an Alumni Award last year and he is very interested in involving UW-Eau Claire students in this international service activity. If you know of students who may be interested, please tell them to  contact Dean Rhoades or Marcia Van Beek in the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

Fellows Announced

Cynthia Gray-Mash and Bob Hollon, co-directors of the Center for Collaborative Leadership in Education, have announced this year’s Williams/Rhoades fellows: Mickey Kolis, Carol Koroghlanian, Deb Pattee, and Roger Tlusty. Each will receive $500 to support a collaborative project activity and will share the results of their project at the annual spring Williams/Rhoades Colloquium.

New Faculty

COEHS will be welcoming new faculty in the departments of Communications Disorders, Foundations of Education, Kinesiology, and Social Work during the 2005/06 academic year. Profiles of these new members of our college community will appear in future editions of Transitions.
