New faculty and staff. Welcome to the following faculty and staff: Dr. Carolin Azab (Mgmt & Mktg), Dr. Sydney Chinchanachokchai (Mgmt & Mktg), Dr. Gabi Eissa (Mgmt & Mktg), Thanh Nguyen (Acct & Fin), Nicole O’Keefe (MBA Program, DeeAnne Peterson (Acct & Fin), Ann Rupnow (Mgmt & Mktg), and James Windsor (Mgmt & Mktg) who is returning to teach applied quantitative analysis and organizational behavior.

New Faculty and Staff

Promotions. Dr. Paula Lenz (BCOM) has been tenured and promoted to associate professor. Dr. Doug Olson (Mgmt & Mktg) has been promoted to full professor. Olson teaches in the department’s health care administration program, and is director of the UW-Eau Claire Center for Health Administration and Aging Services Excellence (CHAASE). Dr. Nancy Hanson-Rasmussen (Mgmt & Mktg) has been promoted to assistant professor.

New responsibilities. Dr. Nancy Hanson-Rasmussen (Mgmt & Mktg) and Dr. Ling Liu (Acct & Fin) have assumed new responsibilities in addition to their teaching loads. Hanson-Rasmussen and Liu are co-coordinators of the college’s International Business Programs. They replace Dr. Rama Yelkur who is the new dean of College of Business and Management at Saginaw Valley State University.

Dr. Jean PrattDr. Jean Pratt (IS) is the interim chair of the Department of Information Systems. She replaces Dr. Tom Hilton (IS) who will has returned to the classroom on a full time basis.

Tiffany WeissTiffany Weiss (CADE) is the new co-coordinator of the college’s Student Professional Development Program. (Justin Gardner, Mgmt & Mktg, is the other co-coordinator.) Weiss will assume these responsibilities in addition to serving as an academic adviser and career specialist in CADE. She replaces Sheryl Poirier who is the new events and marketing coordinator for the UW-Eau Claire University Recreation & Sport Facilities.

Sabbaticals and leaves. Dr. Nan Hu (Acct & Fin) has returned from a personal leave taken spring 2013. Dr. Scott Lester (Mgmt & Mktg) is on sabbatical for the fall 2013 semester. Dr. Abe Nahm (Mgmt & Mktg) is back from a spring 2013 sabbatical.

Jan StewartRetirements. Jan Stewart, MBA program associate, retired August 1, 2013, after 21 years of service to the university. A retirement party will be held for her Thursday, September 12 from 1–3 pm in the Cargill Collaboration Center, Schneider Hall 203.

Rebecca WylandBaby News. Kaelum Edin Clark was born on Aug 20, 2013 to proud parents Dr. Rebecca Wyland (Mgmt & Mktg) and Fraser Clark.

Dean Diane Hoadley has added "Grandmother" to her list of titles. Her first grandchild, Joshua Michael Anderson, was born July 20th. The proud parents are Sara and Joe Anderson.

Chuck TomkovickOur condolences. Dr. Chuck Tomkovick, 59, (Mgmt & Mktg) passed away July 25, 2013 from cancer. Our condolences to his wife, Maria Bergevin, and their family.

Other changes. Best wishes to Dr. Kris Kemper (Acct & Fin) who has accepted an assistant professorship in finance at Ball State University.

Joe Bonner"Projective Customer Competence: Projecting Future Customer Needs That Drive Innovation Performance", a paper written by Dr. Joe Bonner (Mgmt & Mktg) and Dr. Michael A. Stanko (North Carolina State University), has been accepted for publication in Industrial Marketing Management.

Bill Miller“Development Of An Award Winning Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program: A Case Study”, an article written by Dr. William Miller (Acct & Fin) and Brenda Thalacker (Acct & Fin) has been accepted for publication in the American Journal of Business Education.

Max Peer

International cyclist Max Peer visited the COB August 5 as part of the Share the Knowledge tour, a 35,000 mile, four-year global bike-canoe tour sponsored by SAP, SAP University Alliances and the Interaction Design Foundation to spread information about free educational resources to improve technology design and help create a more sustainable world.

UW-Eau Claire Sales Team holds first meeting on Sept. 6

The UW-Eau Claire Sales Team will meet Friday, September 6, 2013 at 3 pm in Schneider Hall, Room 320.

Coach Jerry Kollross will set up practice partners and schedule practice times every week leading up to the 2013 Blugold Sales Challenge, October 4–5. He will also take sizes for student team shirts.

Students should contact Jerry Kollross if they are unable to attend this important meeting.

Health Care Administration Program accepting applications for admission to the program

Health Care AdministrationThe University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Health Care Administration (HCAD) Program accepts applications for admission to the program twice each year. The fall application deadline for the 2015 practicum cohort is October 4, 2013. Applications are due by 4 pm in Schneider 400C.

Diane Hoadley

Dean Diane Hoadley represented UW-Eau Claire at commencement exercises held in June at Jinan University in Guangzhou, China, for graduates of the China 1-2-1 Partnership Program facilitated through the China Center for International Educational Exchange and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. Students in the program spent a year at a Chinese university, studied at UW-Eau Claire for two years and return to the institution in China for their final year. Graduates received bachelor's degrees from UW-Eau Claire and their institution in China.

Jean Pratt and Ruidong Zhang

And the winners are...Dr. Jean Pratt and Dr. Ruidong Zhang from the Department of Information Systems. Pratt and Zhang placed first in the COB annual bean bag competition. The event was held in conjunction with the college's annual back-to-school picnic for faculty and staff.

D'Arcy Becker

Accounting professor Dr. D'Arcy Becker (back, center), enjoying dinner with international faculty in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Becker was one of 23 faculty members invited to teach 4th year university students at Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main during a special week of international instruction. The session was held in late May.

John Maher

John Maher, an accounting scholar from the Waterford Institute of Technology in Waterford, Ireland, visited the College of Business in late July 2013. Maher met with COB faculty and staff, guest lectured in a section of MGMT 494, and gathered research for a study on credit unions. He also worked with Dr. Bill Miller (Acct & Fin) on a joint research project on international financial reporting standards.
