News around Schneider
welcome back
Special greetings to all our new students!
A lot changed over the summer while you were gone—the old Davies is gone and a new one is in its place. The new education building has sprung up where the Children's Center used to be. Parking has changed—parking along Schneider is no longer a flasher zone (handicapped parking only). And believe it or not, it is much easier to navigate campus now than it was this summer (just ask your friends who stayed in town). Despite all the dust and the inconvenience, the area around Schneider is beginning to look pretty spectacular.
September is always a busy month but this year will be busier than most. This is especially true the last week of September as we will be hosting the Blugold Sales Challenge, AACSB reaffirmation of accreditation visit, Career Conference (and Pre-Conference Reception), Advisory Board meetings, Baker Tilly Room Dedication, and Homecoming! Check the COB calendar (on the college's homepage) for these and other activities. Stay up-to-date between BizWires by following the college's social media sites.
What's new with you? We are always interested in hearing about internships, study abroad experiences, students organziation activities, and other high impact learning experiences.
Best wishes for a wonderful school year.

New accounting and finance program pairs Chinese students with mentors
Twelve Chinese students in the UW-Eau Claire Department of Accounting and Finance are participating in a new mentoring program that pairs them with a current UW-Eau Claire accounting or finance student. The UW-Eau Claire students, who will serve as both friend and role model, will help the Chinese students navigate life on an American college campus by introducing them to professional, social, cultural and recreational activities, and answering a wide range of their questions, like "Where can I go for help with my research paper?".
The Department of Accounting and Finance mentoring program is coordinated by Ingrid Ulstad, senior lecturer and Dr. D'Arcy Becker, chair.

Standifer invited to attend session in Italy
Dr. Rhetta Standifer, Management and Marketing, is one of 25 researchers worldwide to be invited to attend Bridging the Great Divide: Advancing the Science of Multiteam Systems Through International Collaboration, a small group meeting hosted by the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP). The meeting will be held October 27-29, 2012 in Varenna, Italy.
A multiteam system (MTS) consist of two or more teams that work together directly and interdependently on a commonly-held goal that is typically too large or complex for a single team or organization to accomplish. While MTSs may be found in business, science, the military and non-profits organizations, their impact on organizations has not been widely researched. The EAWOP seeks to build international visibility for MTSs and generate a global community of researchers interested in the topic.
