College of Business Welcomes New Faculty and Staff
The College of Business has several new faculty and staff joining this year. We welcome the following individuals:
Jessica Gardner, B.A., Career and Employment Manager - College of Business
Ms. Jessica Gardner joins as the Career and Employment Manager for the College of Business. She, along with Erin Leifker, will help students with career decisions including finding internships, assisting in resume and cover letter writing, and interviewing. She will also work with Chippewa Valley employers to help them connect and hire UW-Eau Claire students.
Ms. Gardner has a B.A. in marketing from University of Wisconsin - Madison and is currently working on an M.B.A. through the program at UW-Eau Claire.
She has eight years of professional experience in sales, with most coming from the pharmaceutical industry.
In her free time, she enjoys playing golf, hiking, biking and spending time with her family.
Ling Liu, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Accounting - Accounting and Finance
Dr. Ling Liu joins the accounting and finance department this year as an assistant professor of accounting. Dr.Liu has a B.S. in management information systems from Hohai University in Nanjing, China. She has an M.S. in both Management Information Systems and Accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas. She recently completed her Ph.D. from there as well.
Dr. Liu's professional background includes a teaching position at Nanjing University of Economics and Finance in China, which she had for three years before starting her Ph.D. From 2004-2006, she also acted as corporate secretary, corporate treasurer and was a board member for a small public U.S. company.
In her free time, Dr. Liu enjoys reading and having fun with her family.
Peter Marsnik, M.B.A., Executive in Residence - Management and Marketing
Mr. Peter Marsnik joins the College of Business as an executive in residence for the Dennis L. Heyde Entrepreneur Program. Mr. Marsnik is president of ClearWater Systems, a water treatment solutions company he started back in 2004. The company has taken a specific focus on the technology of chemically modifying soybean hulls in the use of removing heavy metals in water.
He obtained a bachelorís degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota Ė Twin Cities and earned his M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
Mr. Marsnik has been in Eau Claire since 1996 when he transferred with Hutchinson Technology as a manager. In 2000, he started a consulting firm with focus on process development and business development.
In addition, Mr. Marsnik serves as manager of the Chippewa Valley Angel Investors Network, where he screens business opportunities for the group and manages deal flow activities. In his spare time, he serves as chair of the Eau Claire County Groundwater Advisory Committee.
William Miller, M.B.A., Lecturer, Accounting - Accounting and Finance
Mr. William Miller, who recently taught online courses for the UW MBA consortium this past spring, now joins the Accounting and Finance department as a lecturer of accounting. A CPA, Mr. Miller earned his B.B.A. in accounting from California State University, Northridge. He obtained his M.B.A. from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul where he taught as an adjunct in the accounting and business departments. He also is in the final stages of completing a Doctorate of Education and Leadership; and Policy and Administration from there as well.
He has over 22 years of professional experience within the roles of CEO, COO, CFO, Sr. V.P. of Finance & Information Systems and Controller. In addition, Mr. Miller has also done a fair amount of consulting in the alternative fuels industry. One of his most rewarding experiences of his professional life was developing strategies to acquire or divest a business and working on these plans, including the sale of an ethanol plant which gave the shareholders substantial amount of return in less than a year.
Outside of his career, Mr. Miller is an avid snowboarder.
Scott Swanson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Marketing - Management and Marketing
Dr. Scott Swanson joins the management and marketing department this year as assistant professor of marketing. A Wisconsin native, he received his undergraduate degree from UW-River Falls, masterís from UW- Oshkosh. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.
Before coming to the College of Business, Dr. Swanson was the Department of Marketing chair and the Arno Kleimenhagen Chair in Marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He also worked in sales, purchasing and new product development for nine years after obtaining his undergraduate degree.
Dr. Swanson spends his free time gardening and doing home improvements. He enjoys fishing, swimming, snow skiing and traveling. Dr. Swanson has been to China, Singapore, Costa Rica and Italy while conducting research.
