Etiquette Tip of the Month: Follow Up with a Thank You Note
Interview thank you notes should be as common as résumé cover letters.
While the cover letter is your first chance to make a good impression, a thank you note after an interview is your opportunity to confirm why you are the best candidate for the job.
With a better idea of what the interviewer is looking for, restate specific skills you possess that match the job requirements.
Include details of past accomplishments that demonstrate you are up to the challenge of the position.
Interview thank you notes should be sent right away, and after every interview, even if it turns out you aren’t interested in a particular job.
Thank the interviewer for his or her time, express regrets, explain what you are looking for, and ask for a referral.
There might just be another opening available that would be a better fit.
