COB Laptop Requirement Begins Fall 2009, IS Students to Pilot Requirement Spring 2009
As of Fall 2009, students enrolled in business courses must have in-class to a laptop computer, required by their instructor to do so. Courses with this requirement will be noted in the Registration Course Schedule.
However, four IS classes have been selected to participate in a pilot of the new requirement in Spring 2009.
- IS 344, Database Management Systems
- IS 384, Advanced Design and Development
- IS 450, Distributed Systems Development
- IS 460, Seminar in Information Systems
Students in these IS courses must bring a properly configurable laptop to class beginning January 26, 2009. Their laptops should meet the College of Business’ minimum computing specification. Laptops must be able to run the software required in the relevant courses. Software installation and configuration will be an instructor-led class activity but initial hardware compatibility and ongoing maintenance are your responsibility.
Computers will not be provided for you. Present data indicate that most students enrolling in these courses already have access to an acceptable laptop. However, if you need to buy a laptop and are on financial aid, you should contact the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible to ask about getting increased aid to cover the cost of a laptop.
