ACHCA Begins Fall Promotional Activities

The American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) chapter at UW-Eau Claire is the largest in the nation with approximately 50 registered members. ACHCA offers an abundance of advantages to Health Care Administration majors. Caitlin Casey, president of the UW-Eau Claire ACHCA chapter, states that ACHCA is "a national organization that promotes values related to the long-term health care field." Casey oversees all ACHCA committees, which include fundraising, socials, volunteering, and marketing.
ACHCA focuses mainly on recruiting Health Care Administration majors; however the organization's meetings are open to all majors. During these meetings, ACHCA begins preparations on promoting upcoming events and discusses upcoming formal socials. Occasionally, meetings feature a guest speaker related to the health care administration field. ACHCA meetings are held every other Thursday at 5:00pm in room 316 of the Schneider Social Science Hall.
One of the greatest advantages offered by ACHCA is the opportunity to network with professionals in the health care administration field. Dove Healthcare, Care Partners Assisted Living, and Milestone Senior Living Assisted Living Apartments are four health care facilities in the Eau Claire area that work closely with ACHCA. Members of ACHCA help organize events at these health care facilities. These events include bingo nights, dances, and trick or treating.
ACHCA is already beginning preparations to promote itself at this fall’s Blugold Organization Bash (BOB). "ACHCA has the most success promoting itself during the beginning of each semester and especially during fall’s BOB," said Casey. Also, as incoming UW-Eau Claire freshman begin their college careers, ACHCA sends out emails to all incoming students enrolled in the Health Care Administration program. These emails invite incoming students to join the organization and enter ACHCA’s mentor program. In ACHCA mentor program freshmen are paired with current members to participate in the organization’s functions. ACHCA also promotes during the academic year internally through emails and the use of on-campus poster boards including their own reserved board in the Schneider Social Science Hall.
The largest event that ACHCA puts on every year is the "Day in the Park" in conjunction with the "Walk to End Alzheimer’s." ACHCA provides intergenerational entertainment and games on the day of the event, while recruiting other campus organizations to help out with the event, explained Casey. "We will once again invite residents from local assisted living facilities and nursing homes to participate in 'Day at the Park' while supporters of the Alzheimer's Association walk 1.5 miles with family, friends, and pets." This is one of the largest events that ACHCA coordinates and promotes. The Walk to End Alzheimer's will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011.
