Eric Becker, an operations management major from Mankato, MN, has been chosen as the UW-Eau Claire College of Business 2010 Outstanding Senior. He is completing an international business minor and has studied abroad in both China and Japan. Becker has also been involved in many student organizations, and was the president of APICS. Becker also completed a research project with Dr. Kristina Bourne that addressed the barriers to internationalization facing Chippewa Valley businesses.
Becker speaks very highly of many of his professors at UW-Eau Claire, but his advisor, Senior Lecturer Theresa Wells, has had the most impact on his college career. Wells encouraged Becker to earn his CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management). As a result, he passed all five CPIM exams—something that is rarely accomplished by students. Wells stated "Eric truly pursued every opportunity possible to grow as an individual and as an educated learner."
Studying abroad has been Becker's best college experience, and he strongly encourages all students to participate in a study abroad program. He completed an international internship while in China made possible by the Partnerships in International Education program. Becker regards the intercultural knowledge he learned about foreign markets through the internship and other study abroad opportunities as one of his greatest accomplishments.
After graduation, Becker will be working at Stepan Company in a supply chain planning position with future plans to earn a master's degree. His long-term career goal is to use concepts from his research project with Dr. Bourne to "work with small and medium enterprises and their ability to become a leader in the global market place."
